Welcome. My name is Ariella. I’m a registered clinical counsellor and art therapist. I’m looking forward to connecting with you.

Counselling and Art Therapy

My practice is called Invisible Threads, because throughout my career, in community programs, hospitals, care homes, and pediatric clinics, the theme of invisibility has continuously shown up. My practice is called Invisible Threads, because throughout my career, in community programs, hospitals, care homes, and pediatric clinics, the theme of invisibility has continuously shown up. Many of us have deep, heavy, exhausting, and sometimes very meaningful experiences that nobody knows about, and nobody sees. Maybe you carry invisible trauma, invisible disabilities, or invisible burdens? You might even be holding onto some invisible strands of hope. If you choose to work with me, maybe, together, we can make space for some of the invisible things in your life.

We will work at re-framing negative ideas about what is “wrong” with you, shifting the focus to what you are experiencing and how it is impacting your life right now. We will collaborate to deepen your strengths and resources, finding ways to stay regulated. And over time, hopefully the tools that you will embody during our sessions, will get stitched into the different strands of your life.

I weave a lot of different styles in my work, and I have specific training in these areas:

1. Parts Work (Trauma Informed Stabilization Treatment or TIST). I am a certified practitioner in this method that helps folks who have experienced complex trauma find relief from overwhelm, by getting to know their whole systems.

2. Somatic (Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for Trauma or SP). This body-based approach is rooted in neurobiology. Rather than beginning with thoughts and words, we can work our way up the ladder of our experience through the senses and emotions, into thoughts and words. This honours many ways of knowing.

3. Arts-based approaches (MA in Creative Arts Therapies). Art therapy is about engaging in a playful, mindful, and intuitive process. We don’t focus on the end product, and you don’t need to have any art experience. Art making invites our curiosity, allows us to delight in surprising and unexpected sensory experiences. Using art materials in our sessions is completely optional.
